Alon Abady Donates $103m Pico-robertson Office Campus To West Coast Chabad

Alon Abady has made a notable real estate move that blends philanthropy with long term urban impact. He and his wife, Monique Abady, donated a 300,000 square foot office campus in Pico Robertson to West Coast Chabad, turning a major commercial property into a center for community life.

The property is a 16 story office building located at 9911 West Pico Boulevard. It sits on about one and a half acres and includes a parking structure with space for roughly 1,200 vehicles. Abady said the building was recently appraised at 103 million dollars, highlighting the scale of the donation.

The gift was made in honor of Abady’s mother, Liora Abady. After the family immigrated to Los Angeles in the late 1970s with very little, she found work with Chabad. That early support played a meaningful role in the family’s life and influenced the decision to give back.

A Landmark Property in a Strategic Location

The building is one of the most visible commercial properties along West Pico Boulevard. Located between Culver City and Beverly Hills, it stands out in an area mostly made up of low rise buildings. Fox Studios sits next door, with Hillcrest Country Club directly across the street, giving the property strong visibility and long term value.

Abady has described the site as an iconic Los Angeles property. Its height and location have long made it attractive for redevelopment.

From Redevelopment Play to Community Campus

Abady purchased the building in 2023 from Blackstone for about 35 million dollars, or roughly 140 dollars per square foot. The original plan focused on redevelopment. The property still holds by right entitlements, allowing for a possible residential conversion in the future.

For now, the building will serve as the Chabad Campus for Jewish Life. Plans include a synagogue, classrooms, mental health and social services, a banquet and events hall, and the Abady Family Center. Housing these programs in one location is rare in Los Angeles due to land and construction costs.

The project reflects a growing trend of adaptive reuse, where office buildings are repurposed to meet new community needs.

How This Deal Fits Into Abady’s Track Record

Although this donation is unique, it aligns with Abady’s history of high profile real estate activity. He is the managing partner of Waterfall Bridge Capital and has invested across hospitality, commercial, and luxury residential assets.

In 2021, he purchased the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills for 96 million dollars. His residential deals include buying Simon Cowell’s former Beverly Hills home for 25 million dollars in 2020 and selling it for 34 million dollars in 2023. That same year, he sold a home in the Madison Club community of La Quinta to Justin and Hailey Bieber for 16.6 million dollars. In 2024, he acquired 1357 Laurel Way for 17 million dollars.

A Broader Impact Beyond Real Estate

This donation stands apart because it focuses on long term community use rather than short term returns. While the property still offers future redevelopment options, its immediate role as a Chabad campus creates lasting social value.

For the Los Angeles real estate market, the deal shows how office properties can be reimagined as demand shifts. It also highlights how personal history and real estate strategy can intersect to shape the city’s built environment.
