Welcome to Bel Air
The prestigious community of Bel-Air is located north of Sunset Boulevard and Highway two and east of Interstate 405. Home to just over 7000 residents, this residential neighborhood at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains was founded in 1923 when Alfonso Bell owned farm property in Santa Fe Springs California, and discovered oil. He then bought a large ranch with a home that is now Bel Air Rd. After subdividing and developing the property with large residential lots, he worked on the master plan led by landscape architect Mark Daniels, who also built the Bel Air Bay Club in Pacific Palisades and the Bel-Air Country Club. Together with Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills, Bel Air forms the Platinum Triangle of Los Angeles neighborhoods.

There are two main entrances to Bel Air, the East Gate at Beverly Glen and Sunset Boulevards and the West Gate at Bellagio Way and Sunset Boulevard opposite the entrance to UCLA. Bel Air is subdivided into three distinct neighborhoods, East Gate Old Bel Air, West Gate Bel Air, and Upper Bel Air. The original subdivision of the Bel Air community was Bel Air Estates, bordered by Nimes Road to the north, Sunset Boulevard to the south, Beverly Glen Boulevard to the east, and both sides of the Bel Air Rd. to the west.

Bel Air is an upscale, residential neighborhood populated with mansions and expensive homes and vehicles. It is one of the highest median incomes in the entire county featuring quiet and tranquil neighborhoods. Nearly all properties are single-family homes with 83% of residents owning their own homes. The median home value is well over 2 million with a median rent of about $2800 per month.

Students are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District and there are several private schools within Bel Air including the John Thomas Dye School, the Harvard Westlake School, and the Marymount high school all within about a mile of most homes from Bel Air. The Roscomare Road Elementary is the only public elementary school close by and the community Magnet Charter school for grades kindergarten through 5th is also located close to Bel Air. All that being said, most residents choose private schools for their students.
